According to insiders, Buzdar ordered the event's cancellation because it was being utilised for political goals and personal projects.

The event was expected to draw almost 1,000 Pakistanis from the United Kingdom, Europe, America, and the Middle East.

The inaugural 'Overseas Global Convention' of overseas Pakistanis residing throughout the world, slated to be held at the Governor's House on December 23, has been cancelled by Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar due to disputes among the PTI's groupings.

The convention was cancelled owing to "security problems," according to the organisers, but a reliable source in the Punjab chief minister's office told this reporter that the event was cancelled due to disagreements about how the event was being utilised for political goals and personal projection.

Nearly 1,000 abroad Pakistanis from the UK, Europe, America, and the Middle East are scheduled to attend the event, which is the first of its type, according to a spokesperson for the Overseas Punjab Commission.

According to a source close to the Punjab chief minister, the event was being used to project a "few groups," and many of those who travelled to Pakistan were regarded close to Governor Punjab Muhammad Sarwar.

According to the source, the Governor House was doing business in a manner that contradicted Usman Buzdar's policies, and only "like-minded persons" from outside were invited for personal projection.

"The Chief Minister of Punjab receives intelligence information from a variety of sources. Many persons who were invited as prominent guests of the event defamed the Punjab Chief Minister in WhatsApp groups and on social media, according to evidence shown to him "the source revealed

"They are members of a group that is ideologically opposed to the PTI and criticises Usman Buzdar's policies, despite Prime Minister Imran Khan's full confidence in him." The governor's statements in London regarding the IMF assuming control of Pakistan did not sit well with the power elite."

Last week, Vice Chairman of the Overseas Pakistani Commission in Punjab, Syed Makhdoom Tariq Ul Hassan, met with Prime Minister Imran Khan and invited him to the convention. The invitation had been accepted, and the prime minister had told him that he would speak at the gathering.

When asked if PM Khan was aware that the convention had been cancelled at the last minute, resulting in tens of thousands of dollars in expenses for hundreds of people who had travelled to Lahore to attend, a Punjab government source said that the chief minister makes decisions on his own and then confides in the premier when necessary.

The event at the Governor House was scheduled by "the OPC and the Chief Minister Office," according to a source close to Governor Punjab, and was not an initiative of the Governor House.

According to the source, they were notified on Wednesday that the event had been cancelled without explanation. "We have no clue what the security issue was at the Governor House, which is one of the most guarded buildings in the country. Because the conference has been cancelled, a dinner event will be held at the Governor House for individuals who have travelled to Pakistan from outside "According to the source.
