Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Monday that introducing a resolution to restore Afghanistan's financial system was a resounding accomplishment.

According to Shah Mehmood Qureshi, the OIC resolution on revival of Afghanistan's banking sector is a great achievement. According to Foreign Minister Qureshi, Afghanistan is in dire need of medicine and food.

Qureshi stated in a statement released after the 17th emergency session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers a day earlier that the problem is the 38 million Afghans experiencing starvation and famine, not the Taliban government.

FM Qureshi also expressed thanks to Pakistan and the world media for covering the historic OIC Summit.

"May Allah Almighty keep Pakistan at the forefront of the globe for all time and under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan," he said.

The humanitarian catastrophe is worsening.

At the OIC conference on Sunday, foreign ministers from Muslim nations decided to work with the UN to try to free hundreds of millions of dollars in blocked Afghan assets to solve a rising humanitarian catastrophe.

"To restore financial and banking lines in order to reestablish liquidity and the flow of financial and humanitarian aid," the delegates vowed.

The gathering was the biggest in Afghanistan since August when the Taliban reclaimed control after the US-backed government fell.

Since then, billions of dollars in aid and assets have been blocked by the international community, and the country is in the midst of a harsh winter.

The Islamic Development Bank will spearhead efforts to free up aid by the first quarter of next year, according to an OIC decision issued after the summit.
