The United Arab Emirates has liberalised Islamic law by allowing unmarried couples to live together and consume alcohol.

The new regulations are intended to safeguard women, domestic workers, and the general public.

The new UAE laws will go into force on January 2, 2022.

Premarital sex and drunkenness are already illegal, and the so-called "honour killing" restrictions will be repealed in November 2020.

"A couple must be married or have a kid alone or jointly in order to have a child out of wedlock," the federal government stated in a statement. "Provide the youngster with appropriate identity and travel documentation."

This month, the UAE enacted a new secular family law aimed at making the legislation more appealing to foreigners.

If the parents do not recognise the kid and do not care for him, a criminal trial will be held, with a maximum sentence of two years in jail.
