Karachi's Green Line project will be operational from December 25, Asad Umar

According to estimates, the BRTS project will transport 300,000 passengers on a daily basis.

Asad Omar, the Minister of Planning, Development, and Special Measures, stated that the long-awaited Green Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRTS) project in Karachi will be operational on December 25.

"I had a close look at the Karachi Green Line project yesterday," Federal Minister Asad Umar stated in a tweet on the social networking site Twitter. Hope that this project, the project will be ready for a test run in the next 10 days, following which Prime Minister Imran Khan would visit Karachi to officially launch it. Insha Allah, the commercial operation will begin on December 25 after a two-week trial period.

The federal government initiated the Rs 16.85 billion bus project in 2016 under the leadership of then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, with the goal of completing it within a year.

The project, however, is still unfinished due to a variety of factors. The present federal administration, on the other hand, is bringing it to completion.

The project was expanded to a total length of 10 kilometres, as requested by the Sindh government, at a cost of more than Rs. 24 billion.

On October 21, the city received the second and last consignment of 40 buses for the Green Line project, increasing the total number of buses to 80. Citizens' expectations for the opening of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Shar-e-Quaid have been renewed. Around 300,000 passengers would be served on a daily basis by the project.
